New bangkas for 15 fisherfolk families

The storm surge that hit Taytay's coastline stacked the village's wooden bangkas against the seawall like driftwood. Fifteen families lost the one asset that feeds them; without a boat, a fishing family in Palawan has no income at all.

A finished bangka with a small engine costs about $430 from the local boatwrights - who are themselves neighbors of the families affected. The fisherfolk association runs a shared maintenance fund, so every boat funded here stays seaworthy for years.

The association's membership list and the municipal damage report were both checked by Sagip's reviewer. Payouts go to the association wallet and are released boat by boat, against the boatwrights' receipts.
